This topic is near and dear to my heart in several ways. First, obviously, putting together this recipe layout for Southern Breeze magazine’s Food “Let’s Eat” section and Summer 2010 cover was a blast. But second and more important, my father is a farmer and corn is one of his crops. It just hits differently when you know what all goes into growing America’s food.

I’ll write more about Dad and farming in another blog post, but I’m including a few images here to show him off.

Back to Southern Breeze I’m sure I have mentioned how much I love travel and lifestyle design. But I truly LOVE food and recipe design. I’d do food porn all day long if I could. The Food section of Southern Breeze, consisting of “Dish”, “Cheers”, “Chef’s Table”, “Let’s Eat”, and “Last Bite” was always my favorite one to design. The photoshoots were always a good time as well (bonus for being able to taste all the fabulous recipes!). Food writer Deborah Garrison Lowery and photographer Brit Huckabay did (and still do) stellar work and I am proud to have have the opportunity to collaborate with them.

This recipe section highlighting corn was sadly the last issue of Southern Breeze. Hurricanes, oil spills, and the resulting loss of tourism killed off a lot of the advertising money, and the publisher decided to shut it down. So it was a bittersweet labor of love to put this one together.

The corn recipes, however, were absolutely delicious and the end result was also one I am very happy with! Definitely Solid Gold.
