The cooperation within the creative and production team for a publication can make or break the magazine. I had a good friend and coworker write an article about the “marriage” between editor and artist, and he hit the nail on the head. It’s so beautiful when the editors, art directors, contributing writers and photographers all share the same vision for the final piece.

I’ve been extremely lucky in my career to work with a series of fantastic people. Some so much so, that when the travel & lifestyle magazine that we all worked together on went defunct and we went our separate ways, we still sought opportunities to work with each other in different endeavors. Even if we don’t work together, we try to make plans to see one another.

Enter the most serendipitous occasion ever. The Endocrine Society elected to have its annual ENDO conference in New Orleans for 2019, which is within driving distance for most of us. The editor and assistant editor of Endocrine News flew in and we all met for dinner in the French Quarter and drinks afterward at Pat O’Briens. Because, New Orleans!

We got the band back together in N’awlins!

I was very happy with the subsequent Endocrine News multi-feature section covering ENDO 2019 in the May issue, as I got to use some of my own photography, and I was able to fulfill the editor’s vision of creating a section with an overarching theme that tied all the articles together. How could I NOT use Mardi Gras colors and throw in the fleur de lis? I think it turned out nicely. More importantly, so did my editor!
